While the spirit of Blood of Jupiter is to celebrate the best of the Sangiovese grape, we've previously added a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon to add depth, weight and structure. However, for the 2018, the Sangiovese fruit hand harvested from the biodynamic 'Gateway' vineyard in McLaren Vale was so exceptional and deep, no supporting characters were needed. This marks a new evolution for Blood of Jupiter and one that we're extremely excited to share, showing a new dimension to McLaren Vale Sangiovese.

2018 was a warmer year and we pushed the grapes a little longer giving us that little bit more flavour from them. Therefore, adding any Cabernet to this wine would've only detracted from it's purity.

I called it early, at the end of vintage if I remember rightly, and said that the Sangio was my favourite parcel of fruit we got into the winery and it has certainly carried on through to the wine in bottle. Unlike a lot of Sang on the market, the elevage (resting time in barrel) and oak this wine sees sets it up as a more serious example, with ageing potential. It will definitely reward anyone with the patience to decant it a little before opening.
