Limited Release: 2018 Hand Bottled Magnums

We saved a portion from the 2018 vintage from three of our most popular ‘letters’ to create a run of super small batch, hand bottled magnums. These magnums are exclusive to Cellar Door and alphaboxdice.com and were hand bottled by our winemaking and Cellar Door team at our McLaren Vale winery. A rare collectors item for any AB&D fan.

Mistress is a blend that changes every vintage, using varieties native to the Iberian Peninsula, grown in South Australia. These are varieties that are quickly building momentum in South Australia’s winemaking industry – and for good reason. They create wines with a rustic, romantic depth, full of red and black fruits and a savoury finish. For such a seductive wine, what better inspiration than vintage time, when the grapes become a winemaker’s ‘mistress’?

Mistress is a blend inspired by wine varieties of the Iberian peninsula. For 2018 Mistress, the blend is Adelaide Hills Tempranillo (53%) and Carignan from Langhorne Creek (47%). The Tempranillo was handpicked, destemmed with rollers out to retain as much whole berry as possible. Wild fermentation on skins until dry, cap managed through pump over twice daily. Carignan was handpicked and fermented with 68% whole bunches with the remainder destemmed on top. Wild fermentation on skins until dry, cap managed through punchdowns twice daily. Both varieties matured for 18 months in old, seasoned barriques, 12 months of that on full lees.
