2017 Touriga Nacional / Tinta Roriz / Grenache
Region: Langhorne Creek / Adelaide Hills / McLaren Vale
Vintage time is when it all happens. The grapes are ripe and ready to be transformed into wine – and they won’t be kept waiting. Nineteen hour days in the vineyard and winery become the norm. Your equipment becomes your family, the wines your Mistress – especially when you come home covered in purple kisses from your grape friends. Mistress is our celebration of the highs and lows of vintage, thanking those that help make the wine, but also those who help the winemakers. Their patience and understanding that, at this delicate time of year, everything else has to come second, is much appreciated. To them, we raise a glass. And you should too.
Mistress is AB&D’s expression of an Iberian blend. For the 2017 vintage, Winemaker Sam blended together wines from the Iberian Peninsula grown across our own Fleurieu Peninsula. Touriga Nacional machine harvested from Langhorne Creek, Tinta Roriz (the Portuguese counterpart to Spain’s Tempranillo) hand-picked from Adelaide Hills and Grenache handpicked from McLaren Vale were brought together in unequal measure – 48% Touriga, 34% Tinta Roriz, 18% Grenache – resulting in a wine that is complex and rich – a marriage of savoury and sweet.
