Bill Rebholz

Long before Bill Rebholz brought his work to our Enigma Barbera label, he was leaving his mark on the industrial districts of his Wisconsin hometown as a young graffiti artist.

That early fascination with lettering, shape and the visual language of the street stuck. After studying design and illustration, Bill taught himself brush lettering, worked as a sign painter and muralist, and built a practice spanning illustration, painting, woodwork and more.

His work still takes plenty of cues from the world around him—particularly the wonky, faded and wonderfully imperfect signs scattered across California. Cartoonish figures, strange proportions, bold lettering and bursts of colour come together in scenes that feel playful, familiar and just a little peculiar.

Never quite what it seems—there’s a little Enigma in Bill’s work too.
