Steven John Clark’s distinctive sculptures push the limits of traditional craftsmanship, a reference to his early background as a stonemason. Unsure of what to pursue next, he moved from Scotland to Glasgow for fashion school, where he met his wife. They visited Australia for a short holiday with a dream of returning to London to continue their design journeys. But when they fell in love with Melbourne, they settled in and never left. That’s where he opened his furniture and art studio, denHolm, where he blurs the line between art and design. Persistent and explorative, he takes tradition and turns it into the wild and unyielding.
We commissioned Steven to create a sculpture to reflect a wine of grit and rebellion. The robust, rigid corners of reconfigured materials in his work pay homage to the stubborn soil and relentless sun of our defiant Jawbreaker Grenache.
