Story
The Adelaide Hills is fast becoming synonymous with producing high quality Gruner Veltliner. We've taken this one step further and focused on two individual vineyard expressions of this sophisticated variety. Situated at an altitude of around 500m, the longer and cooler ripening window encourages a gentle development of flavour, more subtle and nuanced with a tight acid and mineral edge. Fermentation in old oak builds texture and fleshes out the mineral components.
2020 should have been our first harvest of this site, unfortunately Mother Nature's fiery temper had other plans. The excellent conditions in the lead up to the 2021 vintage combined with the enormous efforts of Carmine and Maria at their Bonoposto vineyard allowed them not only to recover from the effects of the fire that tore through their vineyard but flourish and produce some of the best grapes we've seen. Crisp and more mineral than the Springhill site, there's a seductive reductive edge to this wine that blows off revealing a chalky edge that exposes the shy elements of GV.
